✦ PROMPT ONE – Déjà Vu

This may not be the first time it has happened. You really wouldn’t have any way of knowing, would you? You’ve just been living your life as a citizen of the city you live in New York, the city, they say, that never sleeps. It’s a place you always wanted to live in, hearing about it as a child, and it sounded exciting to you. Or maybe it was the place you wanted to get to in order to become something more, something interesting, something that would bring you up in the world. You wanted to be there more than anything.

But anyway, right now it sure seems like the first time it’s ever happened. You experienced a sudden flash, a rending of unreality from reality, the way a person would rend a piece of cloth in two, but this is the world, and you don’t know what to think at first. Because this isn’t your life.

Except it totally is. You know it is, like you’ve never known anything. This is your memory and when you come out of it you know that was your life you were witnessing.

This is known as the Event, and it will change everything for you.

Those around you notice one thing about you during the time you’re experiencing this memory—you’re frozen, as if you’re frozen in time. And it’s catching.

✦ PROMPT TWO – Network

Life before the Event and after are a study in contrast. Before, you thought you knew who you were and what you were doing here. Now, all of that is in turmoil. Especially after your encounter with the man from the Bureau. Now, you don’t really know whether to trust the man from the organization that came to talk to you. Something about him seemed...off. Something that was enough to, perhaps, even make you feel suspicious. But now you know...you are one of the Different.

You feel like it, too.

Members of the Different, the man from the Bureau told you, have their own special Network to communicate on. Will you post to it? Will you relate your memories to the others among the Different—or will you come up with something completely different to say?

✦ PROMPT THREE – Support Group

There’s a generic spread of food on a table off to one side of the room: donuts and muffins, coffee and lemonade. Maybe you’re hungry enough to try it—it’s free after all.

Or maybe you can’t stomach anything, given the event you’re attending.

The space is a local rec center, reserved for the evening. The beige-painted cinder block walls and the fluorescent lighting are a terrible combination.

The meeting was interesting—who knew there were so many people like you, receiving memories of a past life? The group was led by someone from The Bureau—the Department of Medical Services. Some people are staying in their chairs and chatting—they must know each other from previous meetings. Some of them are gravitating towards the food.

How do you feel about tonight? Has it helped you come to terms with the dream of memories you’re having? Maybe it’s time to talk to others, get an understanding of their experience.

✦ PROMPT FOUR – Crime wave

New York City has grown increasingly more safe over the last decade or two—statistics bear that out, as well as the experiences of the people who live here. But something seems to have suddenly broken in the hearts and minds of your fellow-citizens here in the last day, ever since the sun has come up. People are being incredibly opportunistic about carrying out their wildest dreams, or at least, as long as their wildest dreams include attacking people around them to try rob them or to kill them. The longer the day goes on, the more and more people seem unable to resist giving into their bases desires. Bank robberies are happening right and left.

The strangest part of it all, though, is that anyone who is defied by their victim seems to snap out of some reverie they couldn’t control. That’s right, this whole crime wave seems to be some kind of brain sickness. Maybe this means the people around you need to be cured by having someone fight back.

Or maybe it means you catch the sickness yourself, before you know it.

...Maybe it’s time to hide and ride the whole crime wave out somewhere where you won’t become collateral damage.

✦ PROMPT FIVE – Zombie Universe Bleed Over - the crack option

(Third person log or First person Network response are both encouraged.)
One week ago you were living an average life. You were trying to make New York City work for you, a place to call home. Were you in a rough patch? Were things just starting to pick up? Or was life swimming along as you expected?

Today, you are running down the street with a lumbering hoard of the Undead ambling after you. They have caught the scent of your living brain and it is a tasty snack to them. You have a weapon in hand - a pipe? a crowbar? a bat? but there are too many behind you to take them all out before they get you. You’re only option is to run, find help. (Power mode – along with your memories you’ve started getting back powers, what if you tried them out against the zombies?)

When you were told that different universes bleed over into this one, did you believe it? Do you believe it now?

✦ PROMPT SIX – Wildcard

What are you doing around NYC?

Qui-Gon Jinn | Star Wars The Phantom Menace

[personal profile] unorthodoxjinn 2020-04-03 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
prompt one:
The day had begun completely routinely. He'd gotten up, had his usual breakfast, checked in at one of the nearby shelters to be certain they didn't need him for anything before going about his other routine business.

He'd made it close to the park when it happened. Abruptly, he wasn't on a city street. He wasn't dressed in his usual clothes, yet despite that, the clothes he was wearing felt right as if he normally wore them routinely. He was walking with someone smaller than him, someone he felt close to it would appear given the arm he had resting over the younger man's shoulders in a comfortable manner. They were engaged in a casual conversation as they walked away from an area that would have looked right at home in a science fiction movie.

The content of the conversation he was listening to might have been comical had it not been so concerning and over all confusing. There was the one term he'd heard himself use that he had no idea what it meant.. even though it felt like he should know. Judging by how it had been used.. perhaps Padawan was some type of title.

Unfortunately, he had no such contextual clue for the other strange name. He'd never even heard of any place called Pijal.

Needless to say, once he was back on familiar ground, the sights and sounds of the city, he knew that the rest of his routine was not going to happen. He needed to figure out what the hell just happened and if possible how and why...which he suspected would be far more difficult than any other investigation he'd done in the past.

prompt two

[Qui-Gon doesn't trust the man who had found and spoken with him about the memory...vision.. he'd experienced, a small part of him wondered if the man might even be in some way responsible for it. It seemed rather too convenient that the man knew exactly when and where to find him after it transpired, regardless of the apparent side effect of it happening.

That didn't mean he was going to ignore the tool placed at his disposal however. This network would hopefully lend itself to helping him learn anything he might need in his investigation about what had happened to him, and about this group that the Bureau called the Different.]

How many others here are part of this network?

[Getting a headcount of participants was likely a good start, he would get an idea just how large this group of Different was. Not to mention, have an idea of how hard it would be to question all involved to get their own stories and thus see if there was any commonality between them all. Or even get how they felt about the man and his organization. See if he was alone or joined in his suspicions.]

Does anyone know how long this has been going on?

[A timeframe would be another useful thing to compile as well. If it was possible anyway.]

He's been avoiding the park for a bit, after the most recent batch of new memories. As such, he hasn't seen Qui-Gon for a bit. He does now, just as he's moving toward one of the chess tables.

He detours slightly to nod in greeting, though he is very faintly concerned - and trying very very hard to keep his greeting typical, neutral, and natural.

Because he knows this guy - now, and part of that is the name, most of it even since he looks different, too, without the robes and long hair - and that's just awkward.

"You look a little.. dazed. Is everything okay?"

[personal profile] unorthodoxjinn 2020-04-04 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
A little dazed would be something of an understatement. He was still dealing with trying to wrap his mind around what happened and the how of it. Why could come later after those. Had it been a voice he hadn't recognized, he might have brushed both the question and the person off before leaving them behind. A friend however might be able to help him with his current problem, provided that they didn't think that he was jesting or worse going crazy. Ben might catch something that he missed due to being far too close to the problem.

"No. It isn't." He finally replied honestly, looking over at Ben."Do you have some time to spare?"

Well, at least he hadn't been brushed off. That would make things easier - at least this way he wouldn't have to covertly keep an eye on the man or fret about the line between prying and not prying.

"Of course. Though you look as though you should sit, as well."
unorthodoxjinn: (And spread my wings so they could beat)

[personal profile] unorthodoxjinn 2020-04-08 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That was a good idea concerning actually, looking away from Kenobi his gaze sought out the best place to do so. "Good idea." He headed toward one of the nearby tables to sit down at trusting that his current company would follow.

Now to actually think of how to actually approach the issue of broaching the subject of the strange...vision.
neverjedi: (100 yard stare)

[personal profile] neverjedi 2020-04-08 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
He sat across from Jinn, and immediately took time to put chess pieces on the board at the table. Not because he expected that they would play, but because -

"Better to look like we're doing something, I think."

Just in case.

Mostly? He waited.
unorthodoxjinn: (You propped me up on broken feet)

[personal profile] unorthodoxjinn 2020-04-08 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Full of good ideas today, aren't you?"

The words were given in good humor despite his current troubled mindset. He considered the board as he decided on his next words.

"Have you...ever unexpectedly experienced..being somewhere...different unexpectedly? Without actually being elsewhere physically?" Maybe that would get what he wanted to convey across without sounding too outlandish. As he finished speaking he lifted a hand to move one of his pawns forward. The game might not go anywhere really, but as Ben had said prior, at least it would look like they were busy with it and thus kept others from bothering them hopefully.

"I'm told I have a practical streak."

He moved one of his own pawns and then glanced up at Qui-Gon, and his lips twitched into something that was a very slight smile. "Like memories from another life? Really vivid memories?"

He shook his head slightly. "I might know a thing or two about those."
unorthodoxjinn: (You paid with no regard for cost)

[personal profile] unorthodoxjinn 2020-04-08 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
He hadn't actually thought about it like that. Yet, given the feelings invoked by what had happened and how...real...it had felt, it being something akin to a memory could very well work. Though that just added to his questions and the over mystery of it.

"Something like that." He said as he moved a different pawn this time. "Care to share what you know?"

Was it possible that Ben had also experienced the same thing? Or he could be involved in a different manner, hopefully whatever he chose to share would answer that question and others.

"I know that at some point some men in suits will show up - or already have - to give you information about support group meetings and an online forum. Otherwise, not a lot."

Well that they were connected in those memories but he didn't feel like sharing that. At least not yet.

"There are quite a few of us. The meetings have been going on for a while. We're trying to move them away from the Bureau. None of us trust them."
